Your Eye Examination

Assessments Performed During Your Eye Examination

Experiencing blurry vision or eye strain? At Farmilo Optometrists, our team of highly qualified professionals offers comprehensive eye examinations to assess your vision and provide personalized solutions to enhance your eye health.

If you’re experiencing discomfort in your retina, it is advisable to have it examined with an Optos Daytona. This digital imaging device is specifically designed to scan the retina. It features a multi-laser ophthalmoscope that captures a 200-degree ultra-wide image of the retina, providing valuable insights for diagnosis and assessment.

Eye Health Evaluation Tests

Binocular Vision Assessment

Proper coordination of both eyes is essential for optimal vision. Each eye relies on six muscles that must function in perfect synchrony. Binocular vision function can be assessed using fixation disparity measurements, ensuring balanced vision. If necessary, prism lenses can be prescribed to alleviate eye strain and prevent double vision.

Colorimetry Testing

Visual stress associated with dyslexia, migraines, and neurological conditions can make everyday visual tasks challenging and uncomfortable. This condition is known as Meares-Irlen Syndrome.
At our Farmilo Optometrists branch on Queens Road in Leicester, we provide Colorimetry testing to assess whether precision-tinted lenses can help alleviate discomfort associated with visual stress. These tests enable our optometrists to determine the most suitable lens tint for each patient’s needs.

Thompson Read Ez

This computerized reading speed test evaluates reading rate and tracking ability. It is particularly useful for assessing whether color enhancements can improve reading fluency, especially in individuals with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.

Stereopsis Testing Limitations

Depth perception plays a crucial role in how our eyes work together, allowing us to navigate and interact with our surroundings effectively. It enhances experiences such as watching 3D movies, improves performance in sports like tennis and cricket, and is particularly beneficial for tasks requiring precise spatial judgment, such as parking a car.

Amsler Grid Test

Macular degeneration can impact our perception of straight lines, causing them to appear bent or distorted. In cases of wet macular degeneration, individuals may experience blurred or missing areas in the central vision. The Amsler grid test is a simple and effective method for evaluating macular health.

A Variety of Advanced Tools for Assessing Eye Health

The Zeiss i.profiler

Using the Zeiss i.profiler, we can objectively measure your prescription with unparalleled accuracy. This advanced device takes 1,500 measurements across the surface of your eye in just 60 seconds, factoring in pupil size and night vision. It enables your optician to create a detailed “map” of your eye’s surface, ensuring the precise determination of the shape of the cornea for an accurate spectacle prescription.
This “map,” known as corneal topography, enables us to create the most precise profile of your eyes. This advanced technology allows for the customization of contact lenses and bespoke spectacle lenses tailored to each individual. We take pride in being the only practice in our area to incorporate this cutting-edge technology into our routine eye examinations.

Nidek Phoropter Head

Our highly skilled optometrists utilize a fully automated Nidek Phoropter Head to determine your precise spectacle prescription with exceptional accuracy. This advanced technology offers a more comfortable and patient-friendly experience compared to traditional trial frames, eliminating the need for heavy glasses resting on your nose.

High-Definition 3D Scanning

High-definition three-dimensional (3D) scans enable your optometrist to assess both the front and anterior chambers of the eye, providing a comprehensive analysis of glaucoma risk. For instance, a narrowing anterior chamber may indicate an early sign of glaucoma. This advanced imaging technology facilitates early detection, allowing for timely intervention and treatment.

Zeiss i.terminal 2

At Farmilo Optometrists, we believe that ensuring the precise positioning of your lenses is just as crucial as the eye examination itself. To achieve this, we utilize the advanced Zeiss i.Terminal 2, which accurately measures your lenses in relation to the specific frame you choose. This technology allows us to offer the most advanced and fully customizable lens solutions for optimal vision and comfort.
The performance and comfort of spectacles rely significantly on the precision of lens fitting. This advanced measuring device calculates new spectacle lenses and individual parameters with an exceptional accuracy of 0.1mm, ensuring optimal vision and comfort.
